All About Betsy

Answer this question with the first response that pops into your head. Which is cheaper: Buying a new car or keeping an old one in good shape?
A question I have often asked myself every time I embarked on a journey with the Ol’ Betsy of chez Newzgeek, which happens to be a Mitsubishi Space Wagon that, in human years, would be eligible for a retiree’s pension by now. Anybody who’s principal vehicle is a personal vehicle (as opposed to a “company car”) knows the dilemma. Every time you undergo a …

Politically Correct on your PC

It’s been said that “a young man who isn’t a socialist hasn’t got a heart; an old man who is a socialist hasn’t got a head.” Well, maybe that worked back in the 1920’s, when Lloyd George (who said it) was Prime Minister of the Empire. I sometimes wonder if we’re on the same planet!
I know that many of …

One Thursday Night at the Market

They say you’re not supposed to go supermarket shopping on an empty stomach – you’re likely to buy stuff you don’t need because you’re hungry. But “they” have never gone supermarket shopping in Israel on a Thursday night; anyone who does learns very quickly that it’s kedai to come hungry!
Borekas, pasta, yogurt, pretzels, humus, newfangled juice drinks – that was just a partial list of the offerings available for sampling by customers in the super-mega-club-deal market we went to the other day. The sample stands inside the market are staffed …
