It’s bad enough when you buy a computer or other electronic device overseas and try to get the Israeli representative to honor the international warranty. But it’s almost as tough getting them to honor the warranty on products you bought right here!
Stop me if this sounds familiar: You buy a product from a local electronics store, and decide you don’t want it – or find something wrong with it. You bring it back to the store, where you are subjected to an interrogation by a clerk, who demands to know ...

This summer was one for the books – the hot weather books, that is. Day after day of hot, sweltering. 40+ degree days, followed by uncomfortable nights – those global warming people went just a little too far this month! Things may have cooled down a bit this week, but we’re not out of the hot water just yet – there’s plenty of sun, if not fun, still on the way.
Israel usually gets plenty of sun throughout the year, not just in summer, and fortunately, we’ve learned to make use ...

It’s a job to find a job, as so many of us are finding out these days. And while talking a new employer into hiring you is never an easy task, in today’s market it’s become much tougher, to say the least. Usually, we feel a little better when others are sharing our burden, but in the case of unemployment, every new member of “the club” is a potential competitor for your next job. But there’s a bright side to being unemployed this round – or a less dark ...

Where does the time go? Heavy question, that one is. I suppose only someone like Dr. Who would be able to give us a satisfactory answer, since he seems to have a knack for time travel (http://www.bbc.co.uk/doctorwho/). But he’s kind of hard to get hold of, gallivanting around the space/time continuum as he does. But for the rest of us mere mortals who aren’t able to control time – the universe’s, or our own – time has a nasty of habit of slipping away. It’s only when much of ...

Elections are breaking out all over – there’s one in the U.S. next week, and now that the campaigning is over, our own politicians are busy analyzing the tactics used by Obama and McCain. It turns out that Youtube and other video sites were important forums for the candidates. Both sides produced slick-looking videos that were watched by millions, and supporters of each posted thousands of others. While any schnook can post anything on Youtube, the official videos for both campaigns were slick – just like their ...

Buy low, sell high – that’s the way you do in on Wall Street, if you want to make money. If that’s the case, then stocks muse be going like hotcakes! They can’t go much lower, can they? That. of course, is the trillion dollar question – and lots of people believe that things could go from bad (now) to worse (later).
What’s a potential investor to do? Of course, you could leave your money in the nice, safe bank, but where’s the fun in that? What you need ...

If you’re traveling this summer – you have my sympathies! Ticket prices are way up, thanks to record high fuel costs. And what do you get for your money? A nasty attitude from the flight staff. You’re paying more than ever, but customer satisfaction is at near record lows!
But when you gotta go, you gotta go. No doubt, after paying for your plane fare, you’ll be financially wiped out. Don’t rent a car – instead, use these ideas to cut down on the cost of getting around while you’re “over ...

In the writing game, there is a definite hierarchy – like a caste system, with some writers snobbishly looking down on others because they “just” write in newspapers, for example, instead of having their own ISBN number. “Yeah, we can’t all be like Stephen King – there’s no need to rub it in,” I told the world famous author with dozens of books and movie deals, not to mention plenty of cash, when he ranked on me (no, it was not Stephen King!).
Kermit the frog was right It’s not easy being green – a greenhorn, that is. It’s an old-fashioned kind of word, what they used to call European immigrants to the New World 100 or so years ago. But guess what – history is repeating itself! Don’t believe me? Just listen to your kids having a mile-a-minute (sorry, kilometer a minute!) conversation in Hebrew with their Israeli friends, and see how much of it you can follow! A greenhorn, of course, is a clueless newcomer. And while many of ...
